A significant Summer...

Notable for what DIDN'T happen. No big expeditions, no planned camping trips, nothing according to even the slightest expectations for the season. Why? Life happens.

It got really hot and we spent quite a bit of time at the river, until it got too smokey from the nearby forest fires to even SEE the mountains, let alone be outside traipsing about on them. Finally, the skies cleared and it cooled off just a bit, and we're thinking "LET'S GO!"

Julian is now WAY too big to be hauling around on the sides of precipitous mountains on the bike, so we did some hiking instead...

First not-smokey day in Rattlesnake all Summer.

Leaking trees, a sure sign of Fall.

Not much danger of floating away here, but we've got the bright orange safety shirt... just in case.

Even Melissa came out to escort the prisoner... ahem, enjoy the hike.
Julian is feeling a bit short between the tall grasses.

Conditions are dry, dry, dry. Hardly any measurable rainfall for two months.

... and then it snowed. Now, its time to busy with the myriad things that all other animals are engaged in these days - preparing for Winter. The challenge for the coming season is to keep Julian and myself from going completely crazy inside and do some snowshoeing and/or skiing. I just can't see hiding away a bunch of food and burrowing until Spring...
