Alchemy...

You must collect all the right ingredients, in just the right amounts, cook thoroughly with a huge effort and expose to the light of day... to produce a fantastic ride.

Wildlife.
Deer on the road seem to know how to react to car pretty well.
When they saw us, they were like "WTF?"

Climbing.
Rene demonstrating how to get it done.

Huge switchbacks.

Huge views.

Wildflowers aplenty.

And Julian playing in them.
Beep.

Rocky, jungle-like descents.

Plenty of sunshine.

Stream crossings.
Or, at least it was a stream last week.

Trains.
Can't forget the trains.
(dude, hold my bike...)

22.46 miles. 2058 vertical feet of climbing.
Hours and hours of smiles. Happy kids. Happy dad.

  1. This type of pretentious self-promotion, Yuppie-pretending-to-be-earthy nonsense is the very thing that's wrong with all the new Missoula hipster jerks.

You've certainly got every single "progressive" box ticked! Prayer flags! Zen koans! "I'm riding my bike everywhere which makes me cooler than you!"

You should have moved to Boulder and taken all those other new transplants with you. You could all be pretentiously professional together!

  2. Mr. Ochstradt, I fail to understand why you avail yourself of further opportunities to visit my blog if you find it so offensive. You are, of course welcome to continue doing so if it provides a venue for the bolstering of your ego and sense of self-righteousness.

I would add that while your criticism excels in hyperbole, cliche and ignorance, it is somewhat lacking in substance and accuracy. Perhaps it is true that we are not (nor desire to be) like certain Montanans who feel that xenophobia and prejudice are hallmarks of "culture."

You know, the primary reason for the existence of this blog is to share our adventures and those of our kids with friends and family. I'm really struggling to see how that offends your conservative outlook.

    'til next time!
